One does not have to be a genius to guess the pulse of the nation in the wake of the Mumbai terrror attacks. Citizens want action against the perpetrators of the heinous crime and they want the cold-blood killers and their instigators to be brought to justice.
Everybody is blaming the government for the tragedy, but I think we should introspect to find out what we, as individuals, can do so that such tragedies do not occur again. By merely changing the government would not help as we'll just replace one set of unqualified politicians with the other.
Broadly, there are two kinds of Indians. Those with good education, mostly having white collar jobs, with good knowledge of world affairs, who think they are duing their share of national duty by paying their taxes on time. Let us call them "Informed Indians". Then there are others, with a little or no education, mostly engaged in blue collar jobs or are jobless. Let us call them "Uninformed Indians".
Uninformed Indians, generally, are actively involved in the political process and would normally root for a candidate of his caste or religion. They feel secure in the fact that the candidate they are supporting has a "good standing" in the community. A status which could only be earned after years of commiting crimes against the members of the other community. Uninformed Indians do not base their decision on whether the candidate is qualified and has the knowledge and temperament for the job.
Most of the Informed Indians, on the other hand, would rather stay out of the political process, because they think politics is a "dirty business" and only criminals and thugs are actively involved in it.
Then comes the election day, Uninformed Indians vote in large numbers and most of the Informed Indians would not even turn up at the voting booth, mostly because of a lack of a qualified candidate. The outcome could be anyone's guess - the worst of the worst are elected.
If we want a government which consists of responsible ministers, then Informed Indians should get involved in the political process in large numbers and should vote even if there are only criminals on the ballot. At least they can help elect a lesser evil.
We should consider this our fundamental duty to promote the right individuals to the higher political leadership roles and the way to do this is by participating in the political process - voting, fighting election and encouraging the able among us.

Unfortunately when students from IIT created a political party no one voted for them and thats the informed Indians do. They never vote, if they come out and vote for such right candidates, we will be discouraging corrupt politicians from contesting the elections which by itself is a major victory for the people.
After all, democracy is a government for ALL the people but by the people - WHO VOTE
so decide now TO VOTE - AND TO VOTE FOR THE RIGHT CANDIDATE
